{"id":272762,"date":"2023-12-07T13:53:00","date_gmt":"2023-12-07T08:23:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/?p=272762"},"modified":"2023-12-09T14:06:22","modified_gmt":"2023-12-09T08:36:22","slug":"heat-action-plans-haps","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/heat-action-plans-haps\/","title":{"rendered":"Heat Action Plans (HAPs)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Source: <\/b><b>\u00a0<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The post is based on the article <\/span><b>\u201c<\/b><b>Heat Action Plans(HAPs)<\/b><b>\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> published in <\/span><b>\u201cPIB\u201d on 7th December 2023<\/b><\/p>\n<h2>Why in the News?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Union Minister of Earth Sciences has informed about the steps taken by the Government of India against Heat Waves.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>What are Heat Waves?<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/heat-waves-rising-frequency-and-intensity\/\"><b>Click Here to read<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>What are the Steps taken by the Government against Heat Waves?<\/h2>\n<p><b>1) Climate Hazards and Vulnerability Atlas of India:<\/b><\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><b>Specifications<\/b><\/td>\n<td><b>Details<\/b><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><b>Prepared by<\/b><\/td>\n<td><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India Meteorological Department (IMD)<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><b>Purpose<\/b><\/td>\n<td><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a web based atlas that <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">provides information on the hazard and vulnerability of 13 disastrous meteorological events including heat waves.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><b>Key Features<\/b><\/td>\n<td><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1) <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The atlas is depicted using Geographic Information System (GIS) tools.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2) <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The atlas offers district-level maps showcasing hazard events and vulnerability for all months and annually.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3) The maps are prepared based on the disaster data from the annual publication of IMD \u201cAnnual Disastrous Weather Reports\u201d.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><b>Key Findings of Atlas on Heat waves<\/b><\/td>\n<td>1) <b>Vulnerability districts:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> 13% of districts and 15% of population are moderately to very highly vulnerable to heat waves.<br \/>\n<\/span>2) <b>Most vulnerable states: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rajasthan (15 districts) and Andhra Pradesh (13 districts) are the states most susceptible to heat waves.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><b>2) Heat Action Plans (HAP): <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">IMD has collaborated with National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and local health departments to start Heat Action Plans (HAPs) in many parts of the country to warn<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and advise about heat waves.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 At present, HAPs have been implemented in 23 States that are prone to high temperatures leading to heat-wave conditions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 In these states, daily heat wave bulletins are issued with 5-day forecasts and color-coded impacts (green, yellow, orange, red).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Note:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> State governments are responsible for implementing and monitoring HAP.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3) <\/span><b>Awareness generation through various platforms:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> IMD is conveying heat wave information with the help of daily and weekly video messages on social media platforms like\u00a0 YouTube, Facebook, WhatsApp, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>UPSC Syllabus: Disaster Management<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: \u00a0The post is based on the article \u201cHeat Action Plans(HAPs)\u201d published in \u201cPIB\u201d on 7th December 2023 Why in the News?
