The First<\/span> WHO Global Clinical Trials Forum was recently conducted. The objective of the forum was to develop a joint vision on strengthening clinical research capabilities.<\/span><\/p>\n

Clinical trials are a type of research that studies new tests and treatments and evaluates their effects on human health outcomes.<\/span><\/p>\n

These trials <\/span>are an essential component of the drug development process and are necessary to determine the benefits and risks of new treatments.<\/span><\/p>\n

How are Clinical Trials regulated in India?<\/h2>\n

1) In India, <\/span>the <\/span>Central Drug Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO)<\/b> regulates clinical trials under Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.<\/span><\/p>\n

2) Clinical Trials Registry \u2013 India (CTRI):<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Established in<\/b><\/td>\n2007<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Hosted at<\/b><\/td>\nIndian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)\u2019s National Institute of Medical Statistics.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Purpose<\/b><\/td>\nIt is a free, online public-record system to register clinical trials being conducted in India.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Mandatory to register<\/b><\/td>\nIt is mandatory to register for every clinical trial at CTRI before commencing as per the Drugs Controller General (India) (DCGI).<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

3) New Drugs and Clinical Trial Rules:<\/b> These rules were notified in 2019 with the <\/span>aim to promote clinical research in the country.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2013 In 2023, an amendment was made to the rules to allow the <\/span>researchers to utilize non-animal and human-relevant, including technologies like 3D organoids, organs-on-chip, and advanced computational methods, to test the safety and efficacy of new drugs.<\/span><\/p>\n
