{"id":272907,"date":"2023-12-08T20:48:01","date_gmt":"2023-12-08T15:18:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/?p=272907"},"modified":"2023-12-08T20:48:01","modified_gmt":"2023-12-08T15:18:01","slug":"ugc-approves-guidelines-for-short-term-skill-development-courses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/ugc-approves-guidelines-for-short-term-skill-development-courses\/","title":{"rendered":"UGC approves guidelines for short-term skill development courses"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Source: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The post is based on the article<\/span><b> \u201cUGC approves guidelines for short-term skill development courses\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> published in <\/span><b>\u201cThe Hindu\u201d on 8th December 2023<\/b><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Why in the News?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The University Grants Commission (UGC) has approved draft guidelines for the\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIntroduction of Short-Term Skill Development Courses in Higher Educational Institutes\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Note-<\/strong> The guidelines have been framed in line with the National Credit Framework (NCrF) and the National Education Policy, 2020<\/p>\n<h2><strong>What is the Aim behind these Short-Term Skill Development Courses?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>These short term skilled courses aims to: <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1) Enhance employment opportunities; 2) Bridge skill gaps and 3) Equip students with practical skills.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>What are the key Draft Guidelines?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>1) <b>Eligibility: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anyone who has passed the Senior Secondary examination (10+2) or its equivalent is eligible for admission to the short-term courses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>2) <b>Credit-linked Courses:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> HEIs can offer short-term skill courses with minimum 12 and maximum 30 credits in various fields. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>3)<b> Course Offerings: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Courses can be offered in areas like AI, robotics, IoT, Data Science, Cloud Computing, e-commerce management; FinTech among others.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>4) <b>Intake: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The maximum intake of students shall not exceed 60 for each cohort, with a minimum faculty-student ratio of 1:30.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>5)<b> Center for Skill Development:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> HEIs will establish a dedicated center to oversee these courses, focusing on local job requirements and industry needs.The center can be established independently or in collaboration with industry partners.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>6)<b> Collaboration:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Institutes may collaborate with the relevant Sector Skills Councils\/Awarding Bodies and industries to gain credibility, access to placement opportunities, funding schemes and\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">training, and ensure up-to-date course content.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>What is the University Grants Commission(UGC)?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/university-grants-commission-ugc\/\"><b>Click Here to read<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>UPSC Syllabus: Policies<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source: The post is based on the article \u201cUGC approves guidelines for short-term skill development courses\u201d published in \u201cThe Hindu\u201d on 8th December 2023 Why in the News?
