{"id":27340,"date":"2018-10-23T13:20:18","date_gmt":"2018-10-23T07:50:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=27340"},"modified":"2018-10-23T13:20:18","modified_gmt":"2018-10-23T07:50:18","slug":"engineering-self-esteem","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/engineering-self-esteem\/","title":{"rendered":"Engineering self esteem"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/article\/opinion\/columns\/india-education-system-e-learning-smart-classes-it-education-5367216\/\">Engineering self esteem<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>News:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Ministry of Human Resource Development launched <strong>National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL)<\/strong> which is a \u00a0<strong>part of India\u2019s Massive Open Online Courses, SWAYAM.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Important Facts:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><strong> About NPTEL<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>It is an initiative by \u00a0Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc) for creating course contents in engineering and science.<\/li>\n<li>The course content is based on the model curriculum suggested by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the syllabi of major affiliating Universities in India.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>focus areas<\/strong> for NPTEL project have been <strong>higher education, professional education, distance education and continuous and open learning.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Contents are created for 100 courses as web based supplements and 100 complete video courses, for forty hours of duration per course.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li><strong> Benefits of NPTEL<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>NPTEL promotes self learning which raises self esteem, which helps the learners do well further in life.<\/li>\n<li>The \u00a0educational content is delivered through spoken tutorials is a 10-minute long audio-video tutorial, created through screen capture, with a running commentary.<\/li>\n<li>To improve the accessibility, the spoken tutorials are dubbed \u00a0into all 22 of our languages and can can also be used offline.<\/li>\n<li>More than 100 universities and their affiliated colleges officially use spoken tutorials.<\/li>\n<li>Thus, spoken tutorials, funded by the HRD ministry, can raise the self esteem of its users and also its creators.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li><strong>Lack of Jobs<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>The lack of quality is the main reason for unemployment and not the number of engineers.<\/li>\n<li>There is high cost of \u00a0project execution in India \u00a0because of the shortage of skilled programmers.<\/li>\n<li>Moreover the \u00a0Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) destroys the self esteem of a lot of students, who work hard for several years, but do not get selected.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li><strong> Addressing the problem<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>To address such issues, a countrywide Hackathon (programming competition) was initiated by AICTE where about 50,000 students participated in 2017, producing about 50 useful solutions.<\/li>\n<li>The newly formed National Testing Agency could also help assess the programming capability of students.<\/li>\n<li>Coaching classes are a symptom of the problem we have in our educational system.
