Why in the News?<\/h2>\n

The ENACT (Enhancing Nature-based Solutions for an Accelerated Climate Transformation) Partnership<\/strong> has welcomed six new countries and UNEP into its collaboration at COP 28.<\/p>\n

What is the ENACT Partnership?

What is it?<\/strong><\/td>\nGlobal initiative aiming to synchronize global endeavors in tackling climate change, land and ecosystem degradation, and biodiversity loss by employing Nature-based Solutions<\/strong>.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Aim<\/strong><\/td>\n1) To boost climate resilience for over 1 billion vulnerable people.
\n2) Safeguard 2.4 billion hectares of healthy ecosystems.
\n3) Intensify global mitigation efforts by protecting and restoring carbon-rich ecosystems.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Launched at<\/strong><\/td>\n COP27<\/strong> at Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt in December 2022<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Launched by<\/strong><\/td>\nGermany and Egypt<\/strong>, along with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)<\/strong>.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Other founding members<\/strong><\/td>\nCanada, European Union, Spain, Malawi, Norway, South Korea, Japan and Slovenia.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
New partners<\/strong><\/td>\nFrance, U.S.A. ,Belgium, Netherlands, Switzerland, Pakistan, and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) have joined during the COP28<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
First State of Nature-based Solutions report<\/strong><\/td>\n1) Deliver a comprehensive quantitative overview of global progress in implementing Nature-based Solutions commitments by state and non-state actors.
\n2) The initial report, launching in early 2024, will kick start the annual series on ENACT’s NbS Goals.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Note-<\/strong> According to IUCN, Nature-based Solutions are actions to protect, sustainably manage, and restore natural and modified ecosystems that address societal challenges effectively and adaptively, simultaneously benefiting people and nature.<\/p>\n
