{"id":274788,"date":"2023-12-22T17:25:52","date_gmt":"2023-12-22T11:55:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/?p=274788"},"modified":"2023-12-22T17:47:11","modified_gmt":"2023-12-22T12:17:11","slug":"monuments-of-national-importance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/monuments-of-national-importance\/","title":{"rendered":"Monuments of National Importance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Source: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The post is based on the article<\/span><b> \u201cMonuments of National Importance\u201d <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">published in \u201c<\/span><b>PIB\u201d on 21st December 2023<\/b><\/p>\n<h2>Why in the News?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are 3697 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ancient monuments and archaeological sites and remains declared as <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Monuments of National Importance in India.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>What are Monuments of National Importance?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1) Monuments of National Importance (MNI) are declared by the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2) They are declared under section 4 of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remain Act, 1958.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3) <b>Criteria:<\/b> As per the ASMR Act, 1958, ancient monuments or archaeological sites and remains which are of historical, archaeological or architectural interest and have been in existence for not less than 100 years may be declared by the Central Government as of national importance.<\/span><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p>4) ASI undertakes conservation, preservation and maintenance of MNI throughout the country. In addition, basic amenities and visitor facilities like pathways, signages, visitor benches, facilities for divyangs, etc. are provided at monuments.<\/p>\n<p>5)<b> States with highest sites<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Uttar Pradesh (745 monuments\/sites), Karnataka (506) and Tamil Nadu (413) have the highest number of ASI-maintained sites.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>What is Archaeological Survey of India (ASI)?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1) Archeological Survey of India (ASI) is the premier organisation for archaeological research, scientific analysis and excavation of archaeological sites, conservation and preservation of protected monuments.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2) <\/span><b>Founded in<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1861 by Alexander Cunningham.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3) It functions as an attached office under the <\/span><b>Ministry of Culture.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">4) <b>Headquarters<\/b>: New Delhi.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">5) It regulates all archaeological activities as per the provisions of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1958.
