Why in the News?<\/h2>\n

Angola has opted to withdraw from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) due to a disagreement concerning oil production quotas.<\/p>\n

Note-<\/strong> Several other members have quit the group in recent years, for different reasons: Qatar, Indonesia and most recently, Ecuador.<\/p>\n

What will be the impact of this decision?<\/h2>\n

1) It will shrink membership<\/strong> of OPEC to 12 nations.<\/p>\n

2) Angola’s departure raised concerns regarding the unity<\/strong> of the organization and resulted in a drop in international oil prices<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
