While<\/p>\n<h2><strong>What are the Key Findings?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>1) Of the three sculptures, one has suffered severe damage and is beyond recognition,. However, the other two\u00a0were in relatively good condition.<\/p>\n<p>2) One of the sculptures <strong>portrays a Jain Tirthankara<\/strong>, but it is difficult to ascertain exact identity in the absence of any symbols.<\/p>\n<p>3) These sculptures have been shifted to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) museum at the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalay in Madhya Pradesh.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Who is a Jain Tirthankara?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_275600\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-275600\" style=\"width: 370px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-275600 \" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Jain_24-Tirthankaras.jpg?resize=370%2C271&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Jain 24 Tirthankaras\" width=\"370\" height=\"271\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-275600\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>Source-<\/strong> Wikipedia<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>1) In Jainism, a <strong>Tirthankara is a spiritual teacher and savior<\/strong> of the righteous path (dharma).<\/p>\n<p>2) According to Jains, <strong>Tirthankaras are supreme preachers of dharma.<\/strong> Having conquered the cycle of death and rebirth (samsara) themselves, they pave the way for others to follow.<\/p>\n<p>3) Upon realizing the true nature of the self or soul, the Tirthankara achieves <strong>kevala jnana<\/strong> (omniscience).<\/p>\n<p>4) The Jain tradition <strong>recognizes 24 Tirthankaras<\/strong> who contributed towards the development of the Jain religion.<\/p>\n<p>5) The <strong>first Tirthankara is<\/strong> <strong>Rishabhanatha<\/strong> and the 24th and <strong>last tirthankara is<\/strong> <strong>Lord Mahavira<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UPSC Syllabus- Art and Culture<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source&#8211; This post is based on the article &#8220;11th century Jain sculptures discovered in Varuna&#8221; published in &#8220;The Hindu&#8221; on 29th December 2023.
