Argument in favor for using the term Dalit<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><u>Historical causes<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Troubled past<\/strong> of the community has preferred them to take this term<\/li>\n<li>Dalit literally means <strong>downtrodden or broken<\/strong>, it reflects the struggle of the community to have rights which they have been denied for centuries.<\/li>\n<li>he word Dalit denotes <strong>the pain<\/strong> of all those who suffered because of the caste system; it <strong>defines their identity<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u>Social causes<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dalit is primarily an <strong>anti-caste, anti-Brahminical, anti-capitalist, anti-oppression, anti-superstition rebellion.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Dalit is a notion of <strong>change and revolution<\/strong> for the community.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u>Constitutional causes<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The core of <strong>humanism, freedom, liberty<\/strong> is strongly reinforced in the word Dalit.<\/li>\n<li>It is an expression of <strong>self-empowerment.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u>Judicial pronouncement<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Supreme Court in<em> <strong>S.P. Gupta v.
