{"id":27561,"date":"2018-10-23T14:47:01","date_gmt":"2018-10-23T09:17:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=27561"},"modified":"2018-10-23T14:47:01","modified_gmt":"2018-10-23T09:17:01","slug":"cpec-wont-lead-to-a-debt-trap-says-china","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/cpec-wont-lead-to-a-debt-trap-says-china\/","title":{"rendered":"CPEC won\u2019t lead to a debt trap, says China"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/international\/china-denies-cpec-backing-as-debt-trap-for-pakistan\/article24909376.ece\">CPEC won\u2019t lead to a debt trap, says China<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>News<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Chinese Councilor and foreign minister <strong>Mr. Wang Yi<\/strong> was on a 3 day visit to Pakistan.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong><u>Background<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>2.\u00a0 \u00a0 Why the visit was important?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>First high level visit to Pakistan after Imran Khan became PM.<\/li>\n<li>PM Imran Khan had been critical of CPEC in the past for lack of transparency.<\/li>\n<li>India and USA had 2+ 2 talks recently.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>What transpired during the visit?<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0 3.\u00a0 \u00a0On Bilateral Relation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>PM Imran Khan termed Pakistan\u2019s friendship with China as the \u2018Cornerstone of Pakistan\u2019s foreign Policy\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Wang called Pakistan as China\u2019s \u2018iron brother\u2019 and the bilateral partnership as \u2018an anchor for regional peace and stability\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><strong> \u00a04.\u00a0 In defense of CPEC: China\u2019s claim<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>China rejected accusations that its financial backing of CPEC was a \u2018debt trap\u2019 and violates Pak sovereignty.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Underscored the significance of CPEC for mutual benefit of the people of both countries.<\/li>\n<li>Stressed on <strong>no strings attached<\/strong> backing of CPEC.<\/li>\n<li>18 out of 22 projects CPEC have direct Chinese investment or offered aid, only 4 on concession loan.<\/li>\n<li>$19 billion invested in CPEC.<\/li>\n<li>70,000 new jobs in Pak.<\/li>\n<li>Pakistan growth rate to be pushed by 1% to 2 %.<\/li>\n<li>First phase of CPEC was focused on energy and Infrastructure, Pakistan can take it to the next level.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>5.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<strong>China\u2019s relation with Pakistan Army<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mr. Wang termed the bilateral military relation as important part of all weather strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries.<\/li>\n<li>Pak army reiterated support for CPEC and guaranteed its smooth development.<\/li>\n<li>Pak Army Chief reassured Pakistan\u2019s commitment to fight <strong>East Turkistan Islamic Movement (ETIM)<\/strong> as part of its counter terrorist measures.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>About ETIM<\/strong>: \u00a0It was founded by Uyghur Separatist; Goal is to establish east Turkestan as a separate state of Xinjiang<\/p>\n<p><strong>6.\u00a0 \u00a0 China on Afghanistan<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Stressed on the relevance of the <strong>trilateral China-Pakistan-Afghanistan dialogue as a platform <\/strong>to align perception between Pakistan and Afghanistan.<\/li>\n<li>At the inaugural meeting of trilateral mechanism, Afghanistan was offered participation in CPEC.<\/li>\n<li>China has agreed to train an Afghanistan mountain brigade.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CPEC won\u2019t lead to a debt trap, says China News Chinese Councilor and foreign minister Mr. Wang Yi was on a 3 day visit to Pakistan.
