India needs to prepare for a rapid increase in demand for mobility as it aspires to be the second largest economy in the world, behind China by 2050.<\/p>\n<p>3. Accordingly, the NITI Aayog along with the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) has formed a report named \u2018Transforming India\u2019s Mobility: A Perspective\u2019 marking daily rise in fuel prices.<\/p>\n<p>4. The report stressed on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Efficient and convenient public transport: To answer the twin problems of pollution and congestion.<\/li>\n<li>Reasons for traffic congestions as:\n<ul>\n<li>absence of a public transport system,<\/li>\n<li>rapid rise in private vehicle ownership.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>40-fold rise in the number of motor vehicles in India in last 44 years, from 1981 to 2015<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>5. India marked the public transport to be a cornerstone of national mobility initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>6. Points raised by the Prime Minister of India in his speech in the summit:<\/p>\n<p>\u20187Cs\u2019 for the future of mobility: common, connected, convenient, congestion-free, charged, clean and cutting-edge.<\/p>\n<p>Common problems faced in the cities in the world by the motorised personal vehicles which requires more roads, parking and traffic.<\/p>\n<p>7. Recognising the role of mobility in preservation of our planet, the Prime Minister of India stated the accounts for road transport, as responsible for one-fifth of global CO2 emissions, which threatens to choke cities and raise global temperatures.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Can India take SAHI road to urban mobility?
