Why in the News?<\/h2>\n

The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports has declared the ‘Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar’ for 2023. The recipients will be honored by the President of India at a dedicated event held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.<\/p>\n

What is the Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar?<\/h2>\n

1) The Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar\u00a0is awarded to corporate entities (private and public sector), Sports Control Boards, NGOs, and sports bodies at the State and National levels that have actively contributed to the promotion and development of sports<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

2) Introduced in 2009, the scheme was later revised in 2015.<\/p>\n

3) As per the revised plan, this award is presented in four categories<\/strong>:
\na. Identifying and nurturing budding\/young talent.
\nb. Promoting sports through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
\nc. Providing employment to sportspersons and implementing sports welfare measures.
\nd. Supporting Sports for Development.<\/p>\n

4) The applications were invited online<\/strong> and sportspersons\/coaches\/entities were permitted to self-apply through a dedicated Online Portal.<\/p>\n

The Major Dhyan Chand Award<\/strong><\/td>\nIt is a lifetime achievement award<\/strong> given to honour sportspersons for their contributions, both during their active sporting career and after retirement.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
The Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Trophy (MAKA Trophy)<\/strong><\/td>\nIt is a rolling trophy awarded to the “overall top performing University in sports<\/strong>” over the preceding year.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
