Why in news?<\/h2>\n

Recent reports have shown that there have been 25,37,235 TB cases of TB in 2023.<\/p>\n

What is the current status of TB in India?<\/h2>\n

1) Public Sector TB cases<\/strong> notified are 1,699,119,<\/strong> reaching 93% of the target.<\/strong><\/p>\n

2) Private Sector TB Cases<\/strong> notified are 838,116,<\/strong> reaching 89% <\/span>of the target.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

3) TB cases have been decreased since 2022.<\/strong><\/p>\n

4) TB case notification in 2022 was 13% more than what was achieved in 2021. Due to the pandemic, TB notifications fell sharply in 2020 and 2021.<\/p>\n

5) Over the years, there has been a steady rise in the private sector’s contribution to TB notifications: 21% in 2017, 25% in 2018, 28% in 2019, and 31% in 2020.<\/strong><\/p>\n

6) Despites cases is declining the private sector’s TB case notifications have consistently fallen short of the targets outlined in the National Strategic Plan (NSP) 2022-2025.<\/strong><\/p>\n

7) According to the National Strategic Plan (NSP), approximately 0.54 million TB patients are not captured by surveillance and services,<\/strong> potentially in the private sector or the community.<\/p>\n

What is Tuberculosis (TB)?<\/h2>\n

1) Tuberculosis (TB)<\/strong> is an infectious disease<\/strong> that most often affects the lungs and is caused by a Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacterium. It spreads through the air when infected people cough, sneeze or spit.<\/p>\n

2) Tuberculosis is preventable and curable.<\/strong><\/p>\n

3) About a quarter of the global population<\/strong> is estimated to have been infected with TB bacteria.<\/p>\n

4) Those who are infected but not (yet) ill with the disease cannot transmit it.<\/p>\n

What is National Strategic Plan (NSP) for Tuberculosis (2017-2025)?<\/h2>\n

1)\u00a0 National Strategic Plan (NSP) for Tuberculosis (2017-2025) was launched by Ministery for Health and Family Welfare.<\/strong><\/p>\n

2) It has been launched with the goal of achieving the SDG targets related to TB by 2025,<\/strong> five years ahead of the global target.<\/p>\n

3) The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) include ending the TB epidemic by 2030 under Goal 3.<\/p>\n

4) National Strategic Plan (NSP) <\/span>for Tuberculosis adopts\u00a0strategies under four pillars-\u00a0Detect, treat, prevent, build.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
