Features<\/strong><\/td>\nThe Akash surface-to-air missile (SAM) is one of the early successes of the DRDO\u2019s Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme (IGMDP).\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

It has been\u00a0developed<\/strong> with indigenisation levels above 96 per cent.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Akash-NG is a major improvement over the older Akash.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The lighter Akash-NG flies up to an altitude of 25 km<\/strong> and has a range of 30 km.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Akash NG is a state-of-the-art missile system<\/strong> capable of intercepting high speed, agile aerial threats.<\/p>\n

The surveillance radar detects<\/strong> enemy fighters at ranges upto 80 km and initiates the launch sequence.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Akash-NG detects, tracks and shoots down enemy aircraft in seconds.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has bought five units of the Akash<\/strong> for defending its airfields in the Northeast from enemy fighter aircraft.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

How is it different from Akash\u00a0<\/strong><\/td>\nIt surpasses Akash by achieving a higher altitude ceiling of over 20 km<\/strong>, a notable improvement from Akash’s limit, along with an extended range beyond 25 km.<\/p>\n

It has two-pulse, solid rocket motor<\/strong> that replaces the old ramjet on the legacy Akash missile.<\/p>\n

Its weight has been halved to 350 kilogram (kg) from the Akash\u2019s 700 kg.<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
