You can also say that it is an updated version of previously released <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/national-multidimensional-poverty-index-explained-pointwise\/\">Multi-Dimensional Poverty Index 2023<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_278188\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-278188\" style=\"width: 644px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-278188 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Multidimensional-Poverty.png?resize=644%2C255&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Multidimensional Poverty \" width=\"644\" height=\"255\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Multidimensional-Poverty.png?w=644&amp;ssl=1 644w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Multidimensional-Poverty.png?resize=300%2C119&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 644px) 100vw, 644px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-278188\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>Source- PIB<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>1) India has registered a significant decline in multidimensional poverty in India from <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">29.17% in 2013-14 to 11.28% in 2022-23<\/span> (a reduction of 17.89 percentage points).<br \/>\n&#8211; In numbers about 24.82 crore people escaped multidimensional Poverty in last 9 years.<\/p>\n<p>2) <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Uttar Pradesh<\/span> topped the list with 5.94 crore people escaping poverty followed by Bihar and Madhya Pradesh.<\/p>\n<p>3) The paper reveals a faster decline in the poverty <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">headcount ratio<\/span> from 2015-16 to 2019-21 (10.66% annual rate) <strong>compared<\/strong> to the period 2005-06 to 2015-16 (7.69% annual rate).<\/p>\n<p>4) <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">All 12 indicators<\/span> of MPI have recorded significant improvement during the entire study period.<\/p>\n<p>5) India is poised to achieve <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">single-digit poverty rates by the year 2024<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>6) India is likely to achieve <strong>Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1.2<\/strong> (reducing multidimensional poverty by at least half) much ahead of 2030.<\/p>\n<h2>What is National Multidimensional Poverty Index(MPI)?<\/h2>\n<p>1) The National MPI is a metric used to evaluate poverty in a country by considering multiple dimensions beyond income or consumption expenditure.<\/p>\n<p>2) <strong>Indicators- <\/strong>The index is based on three equally weighted dimensions \u2013 health, education and standard of living \u2013 which in turn are represented by <strong>12 indicators<\/strong>.<br \/>\n&#8211; However, the National MPI covers 12 indicators while <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">global MPI covers 10 indicators<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>3) <strong>Methodology<\/strong>&#8211; The National MPI by Niti Aayog uses the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Alkire Foster methodology<\/span> to assess the decline in poverty rates.<\/p>\n<table style=\"border-collapse: collapse; width: 100%;\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\">For more information on National MPI <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/one-out-of-every-two-bihar-households-is-multidimensionally-poor-niti-aayog\/#gsc.tab=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here to read<\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><strong>UPSC Syllabus- Reports &amp; Indices<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source-This post is based on the article \u201cIndia\u2019s multidimensional poverty rate down to 11.28% in 2022-23 from 29.17% in 2013-14\u201d published in \u201cThe Indian Express\u201d on 16th January 2024.
