Recently, the Pench Tiger Reserve (PTR) in Maharashtra has been marked as India’s first international Dark Sky Park.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Why Pench Tiger Reserve (PTR) marked as Dark Sky Park?<\/h2>\n

1) A night observatory has been established<\/strong> and the area near Bagholi is designated for stargazing.<\/p>\n

2) The park has replaced over 100 street<\/strong> and community lights<\/strong> with downward-facing lights<\/strong> in various villages, minimizing their impact on the night sky.<\/p>\n

3)\u00a0 All these efforts helps in protecting the night sky, preventing light pollution and promoting astronomy.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The IUCN emphasizes preserving natural darkness for nature conservation,<\/strong> maintaining ecological integrity in protected areas,<\/strong> and ensuring the well-being of communities in healthy cities.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

What is a Dark Sky Park?<\/h2>\n

1) Dark sky Park is an area surrounding a park or observatory that restricts artificial light pollution.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

2) Purpose:<\/strong> Protection of night skies from light pollution, promote astronomy<\/p>\n

3) Certified by:<\/strong> The International Dark-Sky Association<\/p>\n

4) DSP certification<\/strong> focuses\u00a0<\/strong>on<\/b>\u00a0lighting policy, dark sky-friendly retrofits, outreach, education, and night sky monitoring.<\/p>\n
