Why in the News?<\/h2>\n

The Prime Minister recently inaugurated the opening ceremony of the Khelo India Youth Games 2023 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.<\/p>\n

What are Khelo India Youth Games(KIYG)?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
Aspect\u00a0<\/strong><\/td>\nDetails<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
About<\/strong><\/td>\n1. These are annual<\/span> national-level multidisciplinary sports events held in India.
\n2. KIYG is a part of the Khelo India Programme<\/a>.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Objective<\/strong><\/td>\nTo revive India’s grassroots sports culture<\/span> by building a strong framework for all sports and establish the country as a great sporting nation.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Edition<\/strong><\/td>\nThe first edition was held in 2018 in Delhi.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Features<\/strong><\/td>\n1. The event includes two categories<\/span>: under-17 school students and under-21 college students.
\n2. Talented players in priority sports identified by the High-Powered Committee will receive INR 5 lakh annually for 8 years.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
KIYG 2023<\/strong><\/td>\n1. This is the 6th edition <\/span>of Khelo India Youth Games.
\n2. Mascot<\/strong>– VeeraMangai Velu Nachiyar( first Indian queen to wage war with the East India Company in India).
\n3. The games logo integrates the image of the poet Thiruvalluvar.<\/span>
\n4. The event will include 26 sports disciplines<\/span>\u00a0and 1 demo sport.
\n5. Archery, athletics, badminton, and squash<\/span> have been introduced first time in this edition.
\n6. Silambam<\/span>, a traditional martial art sport of Tamil Nadu, is also being introduced as a demo sport for the first time<\/span> in KIYG history.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
