This concept <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">suggests a correlation among temperature, altitude, humidity, and biodiversity.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>What is Humboldt\u2019s enigma?<\/h2>\n<p>1) Humboldt&#8217;s enigma proposes that <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">biodiversity isn&#8217;t confined solely to Earth&#8217;s tropical regions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>2) It suggests that various regions beyond the tropics, such as <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">mountainous areas, also exhibit significant biodiversity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>3) For example- In case of India, the biodiversity isn&#8217;t confined only to the tropical regions of MP, Chhattisgarh and Western Ghats but also the regions like <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">eastern Himalayas also serve as regions of abundant biodiversity, <\/span>where variations in climate and a diverse geological makeup contribute to abundant biodiversity.<\/p>\n<h2>What are the different drivers of biodiversity?<\/h2>\n<p>1) <strong>The history of the earth, its geography, and the climate<\/strong> &#8211; These factors are <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">primary drivers<\/span> of biodiversity.<\/p>\n<p>2) <strong>Geological process of Mountains<\/strong>&#8211; Mountains act as &#8220;<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">cradles<\/span>&#8221; for new species, stemming from geological processes such as uplifts that create novel habitats.<\/p>\n<p>3) <strong>Climatic Stability<\/strong>&#8211; Climatologically stable mountains have turned these locations into &#8216;<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">museums<\/span>&#8216; that accumulate diverse species over time.<\/p>\n<p>4) <strong>Coastal tropical sky islands-<\/strong> The <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Shola Sky Islands<\/span> in the Western Ghats demonstrate features of both a cradle and a museum for biodiversity.
