The government has announced diversion of Chenab river water through diversion tunnels\u00a0 to expedite the 850-MW Ratle Hydro Electric Project in Jammu & Kashmir.<\/p>\n

1)\u00a0 Location<\/strong>-Ratle Hydroelectric Project (850 MW), is a Run of River Scheme<\/span> located on River Chenab<\/span> at village Drabshalla, district Kishtwar, Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir<\/span>.
\n2) Project developed by<\/strong>– Ratle Hydroelectric Power Corporation (RHPCL)<\/span>, which is a joint venture between Jammu & Kashmir State Power Development Corporation (JKSPDC) and India\u2019s state-owned National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC).
\n3) Features<\/strong>– It includes a 133 m tall gravity dam and two power stations adjacent to one another. The\u00a0installed capacity of both power stations will be 850 MW.<\/p>\n

Mouth<\/strong><\/td>\nIt flows through the Jammu region of Jammu and Kashmir, then into the plains of Punjab, Pakistan, before ultimately flowing into the Indus River.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Tributaries<\/strong><\/td>\n\u00a0Miyar Nalla, Sohal, Thirot, Bhut Nalla, Marusudar, and Lidrari.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Major dams<\/strong><\/td>\n1) Baglihar dam-near Ramban(Jammu &\u00a0 Kashmir)
\n2) Salal dam-near Reasi(Jammu & Kashmir)
\n3)Dul Hasti-near near Drabshalla in Kishtwar District
\n4)Pakal Dul Dam – a proposed dam on a tributary Marusadar River in Kishtwar District.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

NOTE<\/strong>-1) The Chenab river was called Asikni<\/span> in the Rigveda<\/span>.
\n2) Run-of-the-river project<\/strong> -They are hydroelectric systems that harvest the energy from flowing water to generate electricity in the absence of a large dam and reservoir<\/span>.<\/p>\n
