It is the first initiative of its kind in the country.<\/p>\n<h2>About lab grown fish meat<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Process<\/strong>: Cultivated fish meat is produced by <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">isolating specific cells from fish and growing them in a laboratory setting<\/span> using media that is free of animal components.<br \/>\nThe final product is expected to<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> replicate the flavour, texture, and nutritional qualities of \u2018real\u2019 fish meat.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Significance of this initiative<\/h2>\n<p>1) It will address the ever-growing demand for seafood, and reduce<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> excessive pressure<\/span> on wild resources.<\/p>\n<p>2) It would help in minimising<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> overfishing<\/span> and protect<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> marine environment<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>3) It would ensure <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">food<\/span> and <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">nutritional security<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>4) Lab grown fish meat would be <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">antibiotics- and environmental contamination-free<\/span>.<\/p>\n<h2>About Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Established<\/strong>&#8211; by the government of India on 3 February 1947.<br \/>\n<strong>Concerned ministry<\/strong>-Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.<br \/>\n<strong>Headquarte<\/strong>r- Kochi, Kerala<\/p>\n<p><strong>UPSC Syllabus-Economy and science &amp; technology.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Source-This post on lab grown fish meat has been created based on the article &#8220;How to grow seafood outside the sea \u2014 and why a Govt lab in Kochi has taken up this project&#8221; published in &#8220;The Indian Express&#8221;\u00a0 on 30 January 2024.
