Why in the news?<\/h2>\n

The Cabinet has recently approved extension of scheme of sugar subsidy for Antyodya Anna Yojna (AAY) families for two more years, i.e. 31 March 2026.<\/p>\n

About the scheme for sugar subsidy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
Aspect\u00a0<\/strong><\/td>\nDetails<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Objective<\/strong><\/td>\nTo ensure sweetness of platter for the poorest of the poor<\/span> in the country by adding energy to their diet.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Eligibility<\/strong><\/td>\nFamilies covered under Antyodya Anna Yojna (AAY)<\/span> are eligible.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Entitlements<\/strong><\/td>\n\u00a0Distribution of sugar to AAY families through PDS at the rate of One kg per family per month<\/span>. The\u00a0scheme is expected to benefit about 1.89 crores AAY families of the country<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Logistics<\/strong><\/td>\n\u00a0States have the responsibility to procure<\/span> and distribute<\/span> sugar to eligible families.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Funding<\/strong><\/td>\n\u00a0The Central Government<\/span> gives subsidy of Rs.18.50 per kg per month of sugar to AAY families of participating States.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
