Why in the news?<\/h2>\n

The Karnataka government has registered FIR against 56 officials of Department of School Education and Literacy(DSEL) and 22 non-governmental organisations (NGOs) for criminal offences such as forging documents during the implementation of IEDSS scheme.<\/p>\n

About<\/strong><\/td>\n1) The Scheme of Inclusive Education for Disabled at Secondary Stage (IEDSS) has been launched from the year 2009-10.
\n2) This scheme replaces the earlier scheme of Integrated Education for Disabled Children (IEDC)<\/span> and provides assistance for the inclusive education of the disabled children in classes IX-XII<\/span>.
\n3) This scheme is now subsumed under Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Objective<\/strong><\/td>\nTo enable students with disabilities to pursue four years of secondary schooling after completing eight years of elementary schooling<\/span> in an inclusive environment.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Components<\/strong><\/td>\nFunds are released per student for student-oriented components, such as medical and educational assessment, books and stationery, uniforms, transport allowance, reader allowance, stipend for girls, support services, assistive device<\/span> etc.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Eligibility<\/strong><\/td>\nThe scheme covers all children studying at the secondary stage in Government, local body and Government-aided schools,with one or more disabilities as defined under the Persons with Disabilities Act (1995) and the National Trust Act (1999)<\/span>. For example-blindness, low vision, leprosy cured, hearing impairment, locomotory disabilities<\/span>, etc.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Implementing agencies<\/strong><\/td>\nThe School Education Department of the State Governments\/Union Territory (UT) Administrations. They\u00a0may involve NGOs<\/span> having experience in the field of education of the disabled in the implementation of the scheme.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Funding<\/strong><\/td>\nCentral assistance for all items covered in the scheme is on 100 percent basis.<\/span> The\u00a0State governments<\/span> are only required<\/span> to make provisions for scholarship of Rs. 600\/- per<\/span> disabled child per annum.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
