Origin<\/strong>-Ergosphere comes from the Greek word \u2018ergon\u2019 that means \u2018work\u2019. It has got its name because it is possible to get energy<\/span> and even mass from this place.<\/p>\n

Definition<\/strong>-It is the region in between the event horizon<\/span> and the stationary limit.
\nNOTE- Event Horizon<\/strong>: It is a sphere around the singularity of a Black Hole. When anything enters this sphere, it can\u2019t escape unless it travels faster than light (which is impossible).
\nStationary limit<\/strong>-It is a surface around the outside of a rotating black hole.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Shape<\/strong>: An Ergosphere is shaped like an oblate spheroid<\/span>, or a pumpkin.<\/p>\n

Features Of Ergosphere<\/h2>\n

1) In this region, space-time itself<\/span> is dragged along with the rotation<\/span> of the black hole.<\/p>\n

2) Objects within the ergosphere are forced to rotate along with the black hole\u2019s spin<\/span> due to the distortion of spacetime caused by its immense gravitational pull<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Significance<\/h2>\n

It is possible to send an object into the ergosphere. The object then can be allowed to accelerate there along the black hole\u2019s direction of rotation. This may allow the object to come out moving faster. This energy \u2018gain\u2019 will translate to the black hole to lose some angular momentum<\/span>. Hence, it may be possible to extract matter and energy from the black hole.<\/p>\n

NOTE-Black hole<\/strong>-It is a region of spacetime where gravity is so strong that even light<\/span> can not escape.<\/p>\n

Gravitational Singularity-<\/strong>T<\/span>he centre of a black hole has a gravitational singularity, a one-dimensional point. This point contains a huge mass in an infinitely small space<\/span>, where density and gravity become infinite<\/span>. Here, laws of physics<\/span> cease to operate<\/span>.<\/p>\n
