NASA has recently announced that it has completed the first phase of its plans to put a nuclear fission reactor on the Moon.<\/p>\n

Objective<\/strong>– To create a small electricity-generating reactor<\/span> for future lunar missions and outposts.<\/p>\n

Specifications<\/strong>– The project involves designing a reactor<\/span>, power conversion systems<\/span>, heat rejection mechanisms, and power distribution systems.<\/span><\/p>\n

Significance of the project<\/span><\/h2>\n

1) A nuclear reactor could be placed in permanently<\/span> shadowed areas<\/span> (where there may be water ice) of the moon. This would ensure continuous power production<\/span> during lunar nights<\/span>.<\/p>\n

2) It produces power without any dependence on weather and other conditions.<\/span><\/p>\n

3) It could play an important role in bolstering NASA\u2019s ambitions<\/span> to have a sustained human presence on the Moon for at least 10 years.<\/p>\n

NOTE- Nuclear fission<\/strong>– It is the process of breaking large atomic nuclei into smaller atomic nuclei to release a large amount of energy<\/span>.<\/p>\n
