It will reduce the distance from Kolkata to Sittwe by approximately <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">1,328 km.<\/span><br \/>\n2) In Myanmar, it will then lin<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"color: #333333;\">k<\/span> Sittwe seaport<\/span> to<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> Paletwa<\/span> in <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Chin State<\/span> via the Kaladan river boat route<br \/>\n3) From<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> Paletwa by road to Mizoram state in Northeast India <\/span>(Paletwa is less than 20 km from the Bangladesh border).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Components of project<\/strong>: The project involves sea, river, and road transportation:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sea Route:<\/strong> From Kolkata to Sittwe (539 km).<\/p>\n<p><strong>River Route:<\/strong> Sittwe to Paletwa via the Kaladan River (158 km).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Road Route:<\/strong> Paletwa to Indo-Myanmar border (110 km), and further into Mizoram.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_281539\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-281539\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-281539\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/Capture.png?resize=300%2C244&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"capture\" width=\"300\" height=\"244\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/Capture.png?resize=300%2C244&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/Capture.png?w=464&amp;ssl=1 464w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-281539\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source-Ministry of Development of North-Eastern region<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Significance of the project<\/h2>\n<p><strong>A) Economic significance<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1) The project will reduce the distance from Kolkata to Sittwe by approximately 1,328 km. It will reduce the need to <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">transport goods through the narrow Siliguri corridor.<\/span><br \/>\n2) This project will connect Sittwe Port in Myanmar to the India-Myanmar border. It will contribute to the<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> economic development of the North-Eastern States of India<\/span>, by opening up the sea route for the products.<\/p>\n<p><strong>B) Strategic significance<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1) This would enhance India\u2019s<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> strategic footprints in East Asia<\/span> and more importantly in our immediate neighbourhood.<br \/>\n2) It provides an<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> alternative to the Chicken&#8217;s Neck<\/span>.
