{"id":28155,"date":"2018-10-24T11:03:11","date_gmt":"2018-10-24T05:33:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=28155"},"modified":"2018-10-24T11:03:11","modified_gmt":"2018-10-24T05:33:11","slug":"leg-up-for-private-sector-participation-in-defence-equipment-manufacturing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/leg-up-for-private-sector-participation-in-defence-equipment-manufacturing\/","title":{"rendered":"Leg-up for private sector participation in defence equipment manufacturing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/national\/leg-up-for-private-sector-participation-in-defence-equipment-manufacturing\/article24556078.ece\">Leg-up for private sector participation in defence equipment manufacturing<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>News:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) approves implementation of Strategic Partnership guidelines<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong><u>Important facts:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><u> Purpose:<\/u><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>It will revitalize defence industrial ecosystem and progressively build indigenous capabilities in the private sector to design, develop and manufacture complex weapon system for future needs of armed forces.<\/li>\n<li>It will help in boosting private sector participation in domestic defence manufacturing.<\/li>\n<li>Under this policy one Indian private company would be selected in each segment which would tie-up with shortlisted global equipment manufacturers to manufacture the platforms in India under transfer technology.<\/li>\n<li>The policy came into effect in May last year but progress was delayed due to the lack of specific guidelines.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li><u> The SP model has four segments-<\/u><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>a) Submarines<\/p>\n<p>b) Single engine fighter aircraft<\/p>\n<p>c) Helicopters and<\/p>\n<p>d) armoured carriers\/main battle tanks<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li>Above mentioned segments would be specifically opened up for the private sector.<\/li>\n<li>The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) also approved platform specific guidelines for procurement of Naval Utility helicopters.<\/li>\n<li>All procurements under the SP model would be executed by specially constituted Empowered Project Committees to \u201cprovide focused attention and ensure timely execution.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>The DAC also gave approval for the acquisition of eight Fast Patrol Vessels (FPV) for the Coast Guard.
