Halogens refer to the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">six nonmetallic elements found in Group 17<\/span> (Group VIIa) of the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">periodic table<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>2. The halogen elements are- <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">fluorine (F), chlorine (Cl), bromine (Br), iodine (I), astatine (At), and tennessine (Ts).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>3. The term <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">halogen means &#8220;salt-producing&#8221;<\/span> because halogens react with metals to create various salts. <strong>For example<\/strong> sodium chloride, commonly known as table salt is the most familiar.<\/p>\n<p>4. <strong>Properties<\/strong>:<br \/>\n<strong>a.<\/strong> Halogens are<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> highly reactive and don&#8217;t exist freely in nature<\/span>. They are the most reactive nonmetals.<br \/>\n<strong>b.<\/strong> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Fluorine is the most reactive<\/span> among all the halogens, while <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">iodine is the least reactive<\/span>.<br \/>\n<strong>c.<\/strong> Halogens are the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">only group<\/span> on the periodic table <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">where elements exist as solids, liquids, and gases at room temperature<\/span>. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Chlorine and fluorine are gases<\/span>, bromine is a liquid, and iodine and astatine are solids under normal temperature and pressure.<br \/>\n<strong>d.<\/strong> They are <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">strong oxidizers and have very high electronegativities<\/span>.<\/p>\n<h2>About Fluorine<\/h2>\n<p>1. Fluorine is <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">obtained from a calcium salt<\/span> known as calcium fluoride, or <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">fluorspar<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>2. It is a <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">highly reactive<\/span> element.<\/p>\n<p>3. In compounds, fluorine is the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">most prevalent halogen found in Earth&#8217;s crust.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>4.
