Origin<\/strong><\/td>\nIt is an orthopox virus<\/span> that was first discovered in Alaska, USA, in 2015.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Description<\/strong><\/td>\nIt is a double-stranded DNA virus<\/a> belonging to the same genus (Orthopoxvirus) as smallpox, monkeypox, and cowpox<\/span>.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Types<\/strong><\/td>\nThey are zoonotic viruses<\/span> that can infect various mammals, including humans.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Host<\/strong><\/td>\nCurrent evidence indicates that the Alaskapox virus primarily occurs in small<\/span> mammals<\/span>. The virus has been most commonly identified in red-backed<\/span> voles<\/span> and shrews<\/span>.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Symptoms<\/strong><\/td>\n1) Symptoms of Alaskapox have included one or more skin lesions<\/span> (bumps or pustules) and other symptoms like swollen lymph nodes<\/span> and joint and\/or muscle pain.
\n2) Nearly all patients had mild illnesses<\/span> that resolved on their own after a few weeks.
\n3) Immunocompromised<\/span> people might be at increased risk for more severe illness<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Is it contagious?<\/strong><\/td>\nWhile human-to-human transmission of Alaskapox has not yet<\/span> been observed, some orthopoxviruses can spread by direct contact<\/span> with lesions (particularly broken skin contact with lesion secretions).<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

What is Orthopox virus?<\/h2>\n

Family<\/strong>-It is a genus of viruses in the family Poxviridae.
\nHost<\/strong>-Vertebrates, including mammals and humans<\/span>, and arthropods serve as natural hosts<\/span>.
\nTypes<\/strong>-There are 12 species in this genus.
\nDiseases<\/strong>-Diseases caused by this virus are smallpox, cowpox, horsepox, camelpox, and<\/span> monkeypox<\/span>.<\/p>\n

\nZoonotic Disease<\/strong>– Zoonotic diseases are infections that are spread between people and animals<\/span>. These infections are caused by germs, such as viruses, bacteria, parasites<\/span>, and fungi<\/span>. For example- Rabies, Blastomycosis<\/span>\u00a0etc.<\/p>\n
