Why in the news?<\/h2>\n

The Prime Minister will inaugurate the BAPS Mandir (Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha Mandir), the first Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi.<\/p>\n

Location<\/strong>– It is located at Abu Mureikhah, which is near Al Rahba.<\/p>\n

Type<\/strong>– It is built in traditional Nagar style of architecture.<\/a><\/p>\n

Size-<\/strong> It has an astounding 402 pillars, meticulously carved from 25,000 stone pieces. The temple stands tall at 108 feet<\/span>, being crowned with seven shikhars<\/span> (spires) each representing one of the seven emirates of the UAE<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Material used<\/strong>–<\/strong><\/span> Pink Rajasthan sandstone<\/span>, white Italian marble and 18 lakh bricks.<\/p>\n

Entrance<\/strong>– The entrance of the temple is marked by eight murtis (idols). These idols symbolise the eight values foundational to Sanatana Dharma<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Domes<\/strong>– Temple is surrounded by \u2018Dome of Harmony<\/span>\u2019 and \u2018Dome of Peace<\/span>\u2019.<\/p>\n

Shrines<\/strong>–
\n1) The temple houses seven shrines<\/span>, each dedicated to different deities hailing from the North, East, West and South parts of India.
\n2) These deities include Lord Ram and his wife Sita<\/span>; Lord Hanuman; Lord Shiva and his wife Parvati and children Ganesh and Karthik etc.
\n3) Each shrine is adorned with exquisite carvings<\/span>. It reflects the life and teachings of their respective deities.<\/p>\n

Inscriptions<\/strong>– Stories from ancient civilisations such as Maya, Aztec, Egyptian, Arabic, European, Chinese and African<\/span> are all captured in stone. This is a testament to the interconnected essence of global spirituality<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Eco-friendly architecture<\/strong>–
\n1) The temple has been built by using fly ash<\/span> instead of cement to reduce its carbon footprint<\/span>.
\n2) Nano tiles<\/span> have been installed with designs to keep visitors comfortable even in extreme heat.
\n3) It has not used any ferrous<\/span> material.<\/p>\n

About Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS)<\/h2>\n

Description<\/strong>– BAPS is a socio-spiritual Hindu faith<\/span> with its roots in the Vedas. Its\u00a0global network of mandirs and centres hosts many moral, social, cultural, and spiritual activities.<\/p>\n

Founder<\/strong>– It is based on the Vedic teachings<\/span> propagated by Bhagwan Swaminarayan (1781-1830 CE).<\/p>\n

Establishment<\/strong>– It was established in 1907 CE by Brahmaswarup Shastriji Maharaj.<\/p>\n

Basic principles<\/strong>-It follows No Alcohol, No Addictions, No Adultery, No Meat, No Impurity of body and mind<\/span> way of life.<\/p>\n
