{"id":282445,"date":"2024-02-13T16:26:18","date_gmt":"2024-02-13T10:56:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/?p=282445"},"modified":"2024-02-13T16:26:18","modified_gmt":"2024-02-13T10:56:18","slug":"ultracold-atoms-study","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/ultracold-atoms-study\/","title":{"rendered":"Ultracold atoms Study"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Source-This post on <strong>Ultracold atoms study<\/strong> has been created based on the article &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/sci-tech\/science\/rri-researchers-develop-new-algorithm-which-can-produce-better-images-to-study-ultracold-atoms\/article67821932.ece\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>RRI researchers develop new algorithm which can produce better images to study ultracold atoms<\/strong><\/a>&#8221; published in &#8220;<strong>The Hindu<\/strong>&#8221; on 7 February 2024.<\/p>\n<h2>Why in the news?<\/h2>\n<p>Scientists at RRI have recently designed a new image-correction algorithm that can enhance the study of ultracold atoms.<\/p>\n<h2>About Ultracold atoms<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Definition<\/strong>&#8211; An ultracold atom is an atom with a temperature near<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> absolute zero<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Properties<\/strong>&#8211; At low temperatures near absolute zero, atoms behave according to the principles of<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> quantum mechanics<\/span> rather than <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">classical physics<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ways to study ultracold atoms<\/strong>&#8211;<br \/>\n1)The commonly used techniques for the study of ultracold atoms is by deploying <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">magneto-optical traps<\/span> with high-power laser cooling techniques.<br \/>\n2) Cold atoms of elements like <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">sodium<\/span>,<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> potassium<\/span>, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">rubidium<\/span> are commonly studied.<br \/>\n3) Detection techniques like the<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> fluorescence<\/span>,<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> absorption<\/span> or <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">phase-contrast<\/span> imaging techniques are used.<br \/>\n4) The imaging through <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">fluorescence or absorption<\/span> techniques are widely used.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Limitation of these techniques<\/strong>&#8211; The images obtained using these techniques suffer due to <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">unwanted interference fringes<\/span>. These are unwanted dark-bright patterns imprinted on the actual images. Thus, it <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">lowers<\/span> the quality of results obtained.<\/p>\n<h2>Significance of new image correction technique<\/h2>\n<p>1) It<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> eliminates<\/span> 50% of unwanted interference fringes in images. It is located in <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Bengaluru<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Established<\/strong>-The institute was established in 1948 by Indian physicist and Nobel Laureate Sir <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">C.V. Raman<\/span>. Sir C.V.
