The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) plans to explore the tokenization of assets and government bonds as part of its wholesale Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) pilot project.<\/p>\n

Definition<\/strong>– It is the process whereby ownership rights<\/span> of an asset are represented as digital tokens<\/span> and stored on a blockchain<\/span>.
\nTokens can act like digital certificates<\/span> of ownership that can represent almost any object of value such as physical<\/span>, digital<\/span>, fungible<\/span>, and non-fungible assets<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Mechanism of tokenised asset<\/h2>\n

It involves several step such as-
\n1) Defining the token type (fungible or non-fungible)
\n2) Selecting the blockchain to issue the tokens on
\n3) Selecting a third-party auditor<\/span> to verify off-chain assets<\/span>, issuing the assets.<\/p>\n

Significance of tokenised asset<\/h2>\n

1) Liquidity<\/strong>-An asset can be represented as millions or even billions of tokens, creating fractional ownership. This can be listed on a variety of widely-available<\/span> and accessible exchanges.<\/span><\/p>\n

2) Accessibility<\/strong>-It allows a smaller\u00a0investor<\/span> to invest in riskier assets<\/span> with relatively low capital.<\/span><\/p>\n

3) Transparency<\/strong>– It allows for the open tracking<\/span> and auditing<\/span> of all records due to the fundamentally public nature<\/span> of many blockchains<\/span>.<\/p>\n
