It tracks the change in retail prices of goods and services which households purchase for their <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">daily consumption<\/span>.<br \/>\n2) CPI is calculated for a <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">fixed basket of goods and services<\/span> that may or may not be altered by the government from time to time.<br \/>\n3) The change in the price index over a period of time is referred to as<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> CPI-based inflation<\/span>, or retail inflation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Released by<\/strong>-The <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">National Statistical Office (NSO)<\/span> under Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), compiles All India as well as state-wise CPI for Rural, Urban, Combined sectors. It includes commodities such as<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> food and energy prices<\/span>. It is much <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">more volatile<\/span> and prone to inflationary spikes. The inflation rate expressed in <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/wholesale-price-index-wpi\/#gsc.tab=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Wholesale Price Index<\/span><\/a> usually denotes the<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> headline inflation<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>2)<strong> Core inflation<\/strong>&#8211;\u00a0 It refers to the change in the cost of goods and services <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">excluding<\/span> the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">food<\/span> and <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">energy sectors<\/span>.
