Consumer Affairs Secretary has recently asserted that integration of artificial intelligence in \u2018e-Jagriti\u2019 portal will help reduce the number of pending cases in consumer courts.<\/p>\n

Objective<\/strong><\/td>\nTo provide a simple<\/span>, fast,<\/span> and more cost-effective<\/span> consumer dispute redressal software solution at all levels.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Concerned ministry<\/strong><\/td>\nIt is an initiative of the Department of Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Salient features<\/strong><\/td>\n1) It will integrate consumer grievance platforms such as Online Case Monitoring System (OCMS), E-Daakhil<\/span>, the National Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission (NCDRC) etc on a single platform.
\n2) It has case filing<\/span>, online fee payment<\/span>, case monitoring modules for disposal of cases by all the Commissions. It has Smart search facility<\/span> on archived consumer complaints \/ cases \/ judgements using AI technology<\/span>.
\n3) It will integrate a Virtual court facility<\/span> for a convenien<\/span>t and accessible resolution of consumer complaints.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Significance<\/strong><\/td>\n\u00a0It will reduce the time of disposal<\/span>, multiple hearings, and physical court appearances. This would ensure effective and fast decisions<\/span> & disposals in all Consumer Commissions<\/span>.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

What is National Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission (NCDRC)?<\/h2>\n

Natue of body<\/strong>– It is a quasi-judicial commission<\/span> in India which was set up in 1988 under the Consumer Protection Act of 1986.
\nHeaded by<\/strong>– The Commission is headed by a sitting or retired Judge<\/span> of the Supreme Court<\/span> of India or a sitting or retired Chief Justice of the High Court<\/span>.
\nHead office<\/strong>– New Delhi.
\nPowers-<\/strong> 1) It has jurisdiction to entertain a complaint valued at more than two crore<\/span>.
\n2) It also has appellate<\/span> and revisional jurisdiction<\/span> from the orders of State Commissions or the District.
\n3) Any person, aggrieved by an order of NCDRC, may prefer an appeal against such an order to the Supreme Court of India<\/span> within a period of 30 days<\/span>.<\/p>\n
