(NAFED)<\/span> and <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">the Global Pulse Confederation (GPC).<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>What is the status of pulse production in India?<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_283051\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-283051\" style=\"width: 262px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-283051 \" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/pulsesindia.png?resize=262%2C262&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Pulse production in India\" width=\"262\" height=\"262\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/pulsesindia.png?w=800&amp;ssl=1 800w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/pulsesindia.png?resize=300%2C300&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/pulsesindia.png?resize=150%2C150&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/pulsesindia.png?resize=768%2C768&amp;ssl=1 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 262px) 100vw, 262px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-283051\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source- Farmer.gov.in<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>1.<\/strong> <strong>Current Production<\/strong>&#8211; Over the past decade, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">pulse production has increased by 60%<\/span>, rising from 171 lakh tonnes in 2014 to <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">270 lakh tonnes in 2024<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.<\/strong> <strong>India&#8217;s contribution<\/strong>&#8211; India holds the title of the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">world&#8217;s largest producer, consumer<\/span>, and <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">importer of pulses. <span style=\"color: #333333;\">India <\/span><\/span>contributes <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">25% to global production<\/span>, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">consuming 27% of the world&#8217;s total<\/span>, and <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">importing 14%.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>3.<\/strong> <strong>Area covered<\/strong>&#8211; <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Pulses cover about 20% of the foodgrain area<\/span> and <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">contribute 7-10% to the total foodgrain production in the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>4.<\/strong> <strong>Sowing Season<\/strong>&#8211; While pulses are<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> cultivated in both Kharif and Rabi seasons<\/span>, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Rabi pulses contribute over 60% to the total production<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5. Pulse Varieties contribution<\/strong>&#8211; <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Gram is the leading pulse<\/span>, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">comprising about 40% of total production<\/span>, followed by <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Tur\/Arhar at 15-20%,<\/span> and Urad\/Black Matpe and Moong at approximately 8-10% each.<\/p>\n<p><b>6. Current status of pulse varieties- <\/b>India now produces enough chickpeas (chana) and various other pulse crops to meet its own needs, with only a minor shortfall in pigeon peas (tur) and black gram.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>&#8211; The government aims to <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">attain self-sufficiency in pulses by the end of 2027<\/span>.<\/p>\n<h2>What is Global Pulses Confederation (GPC)?<\/h2>\n<p><strong>1. About<\/strong>-It is an organization that represents the pulse industry worldwide.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.<\/strong> <strong>Stakeholders<\/strong>&#8211; It represents all aspects of the pulse industry, including growers, researchers, traders, government bodies, processors, and consumers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.
