Why in the news?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The 14th Conference of the Parties on the CMS has recently adopted the Single Species Action Plan for conservation of the Hawksbill Turtle.<\/p>\n

Description<\/strong>– It is the key instrument developed under the Agreement on the Conservation of African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds (AEWA).<\/span><\/p>\n

Objective<\/strong>– To implement coordinated measures to restore migratory waterbird species<\/span> to a favourable conservation status<\/span>.<\/p>\n

What is Agreement on the Conservation of African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds(AEWA)?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Description<\/strong><\/td>\nIt is an intergovernmental treaty<\/span> dedicated to the conservation of migratory waterbirds<\/span> and their habitats.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Objective<\/strong><\/td>\nTo bring together countries<\/span> and the wider international conservation community<\/span> in an effort to establish coordinated conservation<\/span> and management of migratory waterbirds<\/span> throughout their entire migratory range.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Administered by<\/strong><\/td>\nIt is developed under the framework of the Convention on Migratory Species (CMS)<\/span> and administered by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Secretariat<\/strong><\/td>\nIt is based in Bonn, Germany<\/span>.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Range<\/strong><\/td>\nThe Agreement area stretches from the northern reaches of Canada and the Russian Federation to the southernmost tip of Africa.
\nIt covers 119 Range States<\/span> from Africa, Europe, the Middle East and parts of Asia and Canada.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Coverage<\/strong><\/td>\nIt covers 255 species of migratory waterbirds<\/span> that are ecologically dependent on wetlands for at least part of their annual cycle.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Governance<\/strong><\/td>\nThe Agreement has three main bodies:-
\n1) Meeting of the Parties (MOP)<\/span>– the governing body of AEWA.
\n2) Standing Committee (StC)<\/span>-responsible for steering the operations between sessions of the MOP.
\n3) Technical Committee (TC)<\/span>– responsible for providing scientific and technical advice.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
