What is the status of achieving SDGs in the Asia and the Pacific region?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

According to the UNESCAP\u2019s recent \u201cSDG Progress Report<\/strong>\u201d for the Asia and the Pacific region:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Behind the Deadline: <\/strong>There is a 32-year delay<\/strong> in attaining the goals, given the current rate of progress. Of the 116 measurable targets, only 11% are set to be achieved by 2030.<\/li>\n
  2. Differences in implementation: <\/strong>There are differences in implementation across various segments of population<\/strong>, based on gender, region, education level, and other demographic factors.<\/li>\n
  3. Maximum progress: <\/strong>It has been made on goals 1 and 9<\/strong>, i.e. \u201cno poverty\u201d and \u201csustainable industry, innovation and infrastructure\u201d, respectively.<\/li>\n
  4. Negative progress: <\/strong>Climate action (goal 13)<\/strong> has continued to regress in the region.<\/li>\n
  5. Positive progress: <\/strong>The report has commended the efforts of certain countries. For instance, Vietnam<\/strong>\u2019s efforts to prioritise technical and vocational education and digitally empower its migrant workers. Also, Bangladesh <\/strong>has improved maternal and perinatal-death surveillance and response systems.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    What is India\u2019s situation with respect to achieving SDGs?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    As per the report, India\u2019s track record is better than that of many of its peers in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
    Reverse Progress<\/strong><\/td>\nNo Progress<\/strong><\/td>\nProgress<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
    India saw deterioration on 36 indicators.<\/p>\n

    India endured maximum reversal in progress in zero hunger (goal 2)<\/strong>, decent work and economic growth (goal 8)<\/strong>, and life on land (goal 15)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    These include investment in agriculture; suicide rates; treatment of waste-water; international agreements on hazardous waste; fiscal, wage, and social-protection policies; expenditure on research and development; expenditure on biodiversity and ecosystems; land degradation; and employment in manufacturing.<\/td>\n

    		India stagnated on 27 indicators.<\/p>\n

    India made no real progress for \u201clife below water\u201d (goal 14)<\/strong>. There was either stagnation or reversal in targets under this goal.<\/td>\n

    		India performed well on 85 indicators.
    \nImprovements were seen in access to affordable and clean energy (goal 7)<\/strong>, industry, innovation and infrastructure (goal 9)<\/strong>, and good health and wellbeing (goal 3)<\/strong>.For goal 4<\/strong>, i.e. provision of quality education, the country saw tremendous positive strides. <\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

    Overall, India\u2019s performance remains mixed.<\/p>\n

    What should be the way forward?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    Focusing on Data Availability: <\/strong>Data unavailability is a major hindrance in accurately measuring countries\u2019 advancement on various SDGs.<\/p>\n
