Why in the News?<\/h2>\n

Recently, the World Health Organization (WHO) in collaboration with Indian Govt, launched the Global Initiative on Digital Health (GIDH), a platform for sharing knowledge and digital products worldwide. This initiative constitutes one of the three priority areas outlined during India’s G20 presidency in 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is the Global Initiative on Digital Health (GIDH)?<\/h2>\n

1. About<\/strong>– It is a WHO managed network<\/span> aimed at implementing the Global Strategy on Digital Health 2020-2025<\/span> and other WHO standards, for digital health system transformation.<\/p>\n

2.<\/strong> Launched by-<\/strong> India in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO)<\/a>.<\/p>\n

3.<\/strong> Features-<\/strong>\u00a0The initiative will consist of a network of networks comprising four key elements–<\/strong><\/span>
\na.<\/strong> Country needs tracker<\/span>– Helping digital health investments align with country priorities.
\nb.<\/strong> Country resource portal–<\/span><\/span> A map of resources available in a country.
\nc. <\/strong>Transformation toolbox–<\/span> F<\/span><\/span>or<\/span> sharing quality-assured digital tools.
\nd.<\/strong> Convening and Knowledge Exchange<\/span>– Encouraging better collaboration and knowledge sharing among global, regional, and national digital health networks.<\/p>\n

4.<\/strong> Significance<\/strong>:
\na.<\/strong> The initiative would aid universal health convergence<\/span> and improve healthcare service delivery.
\nb.<\/strong> GIDH will help countries<\/span> by listening to their needs, coordinating resources to<\/span> prevent duplication<\/span>, and offering quality-assured products.<\/p>\n

What is Digital Health?<\/h2>\n

1. About<\/strong>– Digital health involves utilizing technology<\/span> like mobile devices, software applications, and other digital tools to enhance health<\/span> and healthcare services<\/span>.<\/p>\n

2. Objective<\/strong>– It encompasses a wide range of technologies and platforms aimed at<\/span> improving access to healthcare<\/span>, enhancing the quality of care. It empowers individuals to better manage their health and wellness.<\/p>\n

3. Examples<\/strong>–\u00a0India’s CoWIN<\/span>, UNICEF’s RapidPro, and FamilyConnect.<\/p>\n
