{"id":28382,"date":"2018-10-24T12:05:54","date_gmt":"2018-10-24T06:35:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=28382"},"modified":"2018-10-24T12:05:54","modified_gmt":"2018-10-24T06:35:54","slug":"dna-profiles-wont-be-kept-permanently","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/dna-profiles-wont-be-kept-permanently\/","title":{"rendered":"DNA profiles won\u2019t be kept permanently"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/todays-paper\/dna-profiles-wont-be-kept-permanently\/article24415786.ece\">DNA profiles won\u2019t be kept permanently<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>News:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>India\u2019s proposed DNA data bank (used during crime investigations) will not permanently store details of people.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong><u>Important facts:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li>In criminal cases, till the case is solved the DNA profile will remain in the bank.<\/li>\n<li>However, DNA details will be removed after judicial orders.<\/li>\n<li>These things will be specified in the rules.<\/li>\n<li>The rule will come after Parliament approves the DNA Technology (Use and Application) Regulation Bill, 2016, last version of DNA profiling Bill, framed by the Department of Biotechnology.<\/li>\n<li>The Bill envisages a DNA profiling board and DNA data Bank.<\/li>\n<li><strong><u>DNA regulation board:<\/u><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>The board will certify labs authorized to carry out DNA testing and lay down procedure and guidelines for collection, storage, sharing and deletion of DNA information.<\/li>\n<li>The Secretary of the Department of Biotechnology has been made the ex-officio chairman of the proposed DNA Regulatory Board.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol start=\"8\">\n<li><strong>DNA Data Bank<\/strong><u>:<\/u>A National DNA Databank and certain regional DNA Databanks will store DNA profiles received from DNA labs in a specified format.<\/li>\n<li>The main\u00a0purpose of the draft Bill are given below:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>a)To establish an institutional mechanism to collect and deploy DNA technologies.<\/p>\n<p>b)It will help in identifying persons based on samples collected from crime scenes or identify missing persons.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>DNA profiles won\u2019t be kept permanently News: India\u2019s proposed DNA data bank (used during crime investigations) will not permanently store details of people.
