Why in the News?<\/h2>\n

Recently, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO)<\/a> has successfully completed the human rating of its CE20 cryogenic engine. It marks a significant milestone in India’s Gaganyaan mission<\/span> to send humans into space.<\/p>\n

What is the CE20 cryogenic engine, and what is its human-rating means?<\/h2>\n

1.<\/strong> About<\/strong>– The CE20 cryogenic engine is an advanced propulsion system<\/span> developed by ISRO.<\/p>\n

2.<\/strong> Operate<\/strong>– It is designed to operate using cryogenic fuel<\/span>, which is stored at extremely low temperatures.<\/p>\n

3.<\/strong> Application<\/strong>– CE20 cryogenic engine powers the cryogenic stage<\/span> of the human-rated LVM3 (Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle Mark III)<\/a> launch vehicle<\/span> for Gaganyaan missions<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Human rating<\/strong><\/p>\n

1.<\/strong> Human-rating is the process of certifying a spacecraft<\/span> or its parts<\/span> to meet safety standards for human space travel.<\/span><\/p>\n

2.<\/strong> For the CE20 cryogenic engine, being human-rated means<\/span> that it has been extensively tested and has been confirmed safe and reliable for crewed space missions<\/span> like India’s Gaganyaan.<\/p>\n

Note<\/strong>– ISRO has also completed acceptance tests<\/span> for the flight engine selected for the first unmanned Gaganyaan mission.<\/p>\n

What is Gaganyaan Mission?<\/h2>\n

1.<\/strong> About<\/strong>– It is India’s first human spaceflight program<\/span>, aiming to send a crew of three humans into a 400 km orbit around Earth<\/span> for a three-day mission<\/span> and safely return them to Earth.<\/p>\n

2.<\/strong> Launch<\/strong>– It is aimed for launch in 2024-2025<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
