Indian institutions, including the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Bhabha Atomic Research Centre<\/span>, the Inter-University Accelerator Centre, and others, will provide <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">technical components<\/span> for PIP-II.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Function<\/strong>&#8211; It will<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> power<\/span> the world\u2019s<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> most high-energy neutrino<\/span> beam to the under construction <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment<\/span> (DUNE) at Long-Baseline Neutrino Facility (LBNF).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Significance<\/strong>&#8211; It provides<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> Indian scientists<\/span> and engineers the training, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">technical insight<\/span> and <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">know-how<\/span> for the development of their<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> domestic particle accelerator<\/span> program and future projects.<\/p>\n<h2>What are Particle Accelerators?<\/h2>\n<p>It is a <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">device<\/span> that produces a beam of <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">fast-moving<\/span>, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">electrically charged atomic<\/span> or subatomic particles. It\u00a0propels charged particles (Protons, Atomic Nuclei, Electrons etc.) at high speeds, close to the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">speed of light<\/span>.<\/p>\n<h2>What are the application of Particle accelerators?<\/h2>\n<p>1) <strong>Fundamental Research<\/strong>&#8211; It enables the collision of<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> sub-nuclear particles<\/span> at near-light speeds. This facilitates the search for<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> new particles<\/span> and <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">forces<\/span>, and advancing understanding of the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">universe\u2019s origins<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>2) <strong>Health Applications<\/strong>&#8211; It is used for <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">sterilizing medical equipment<\/span> and synthesizing radiopharmaceuticals for <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">cancer diagnosis<\/span> and therapy.<\/p>\n<p>3) <strong>Environmental Impact<\/strong>&#8211; It helps in detection of trace <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">chemical elements<\/span> in air, water, or soil.
