Why in the News?<\/h2>\n

Recently, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the Sudarshan Setu bridge in Gujarat.<\/p>\n

About Sudarshan Setu<\/h2>\n

1. About-<\/strong> ‘Sudarshan Setu’ is the country’s longest cable-stayed bridge.<\/span><\/p>\n

2. Location- <\/strong>It is on the Arabian Sea,<\/span> connecting Beyt Dwarka island<\/span> to mainland Okha<\/span> in Gujarat’s Devbhumi Dwarka district<\/span>.<\/p>\n

3. Features:<\/strong><\/p>\n

a. It has a unique design, featuring a footpath adorned with verses from Srimad Bhagavad Gita<\/span> and images of Lord Krishna<\/span> on both sides.<\/p>\n

b. The bridge is energy efficient as solar panels installed on the bridge will provide electricity for the illumination of the bridge at night.<\/p>\n

c. The bridge is 2.32 km in length which, includes 900 metres of central double span cable-stayed portion<\/span>.<\/p>\n

c. The bridge was earlier known as ‘Signature Bridge<\/span>‘. It has now been renamed as ‘Sudarshan Setu<\/span>‘ or Sudarshan Bridge<\/span>.<\/p>\n

4. Significance-<\/strong><\/p>\n

a. Beyt Dwarka<\/span> is an island near Okha port, which is nearly 30 km from Dwarka town, where the famous Dwarkadhish temple of Lord Krishna is situated<\/span>.<\/p>\n

b. Earlier, the devotees visiting the temple at Beyt Dwarka could travel only during the day by boat. However, after the construction of the bridge, they can now travel at all times.<\/p>\n
