Recently, 40 spotted deer (axis axis) have been translocated<\/span> from Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens<\/span> (Mysuru Zoo<\/span>) to Panasoli range of Kali Tiger Reserve<\/span> (KTR<\/span>) in Dandeli forest, Uttara Kannada district.<\/p>\n

About<\/strong><\/td>\n1. The Axis Deer, also known as Chital or Spotted Deer<\/span>.
\n2. It is a large species of deer, which has a particularly elegant<\/span> and charming appearance<\/span>.
\n3. Axis Deer are crepuscular<\/span>, which means that they are most active during the dawn and dusk.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Distribution<\/strong><\/td>\nIt is native to the Indian subcontinent (India<\/span>, Nepal<\/span>, Sri Lanka<\/span>, Bhutan<\/span>, and Bangladesh<\/span>).<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Habitat<\/strong><\/td>\n1. They primarily eat grasses and vegetation<\/span> but will also ingest their shed antlers as a source of nutrients.
\n<\/strong>2. These deer prefer moderate to dense forests and grasslands near water sources.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Conservation Status<\/strong><\/td>\nIUCN<\/a>: Endangered<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Characteristics<\/strong><\/td>\n1.Lifespan-<\/strong>\u00a0About 20 to 30 years<\/span>.
\n2. Height and weight-<\/strong> It stands at about 35 inches tall<\/span> and weighs about 187 pounds<\/span>.
\n3. Appearance-<\/strong> The deer\u2019s golden-Rufus colouring is speckled with white spots, and it has a white underbelly.
\n4. Reproduction-<\/strong> The spotted deer has a prolonged mating season,<\/span> as the perpetually warm climate allows females to remain fertile and to give birth to fawns any time of year.
\n5. Herd size-<\/strong>\u00a0Spotted deer most commonly occur in herds of 10 to 50 individuals<\/span>, with one or two males and a number of females and young.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Introduction<\/strong><\/td>\n1. The forest in the area was declared the Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary<\/span> on 10 May 1956<\/span>.
\n<\/strong>2. The state proposed carving out a section of the sanctuary to form the Anshi national park<\/span>, which was implemented on 2 September 1987<\/span>.
\n<\/strong>3. It was renamed to Kali Tiger Reserve in December 2015<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Location<\/strong><\/td>\nKali Tiger Reserve, earlier known as Dandeli-Anshi Tiger Reserve<\/span>, is located in the central portion of the Uttara Kannada<\/span>\u00a0(North Canara)\u00a0\u00a0district of Karnataka state.
\nThe Tiger Reserve comprises two important protected areas of the region viz., Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary<\/span> (475.018 Km\u00b2) and Anshi National Park<\/span> (339.866 Km\u00b2).<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Vegetation<\/strong><\/td>\nForests of the Tiger Reserve are primarily moist deciduous and semi-evergreen<\/span>, with excellent patches of evergreen forests in the westernmost parts as well as in deep valleys.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Rivers<\/strong><\/td>\nThe\u00a0Kali River\u00a0flows through the tiger reserve<\/span> and is the lifeline of the ecosystem.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Fauna<\/strong><\/td>\nAnimals found in the Tiger Reserve include Tiger<\/span>, Leopard<\/span>, Elephant<\/span>, Bison, Wild dog, Sambar, Spotted deer, Sloth bear, Wild boar, Hanuman langur, Bonnet macaque, varieties of reptiles and birds including all four species of hornbills as its residents., etc.
\nKali Tiger Reserve is home to rare black panthers<\/span>.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
