About-<\/strong> Bitcoin halving means <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">50% reduction in the reward paid to Bitcoin miners<\/span> who process cryptocurrency transactions for inclusion in the public digital ledger, known as the <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/answeredwhat-is-blockchain-technology-discuss-its-advantages-and-potential-applications\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">blockchain<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Quadrennial event<\/strong>&#8211; This event <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">programmed into the Bitcoin algorithm<\/span> and it occurs approximately <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">every four years<\/span>.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>How does it work?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>1. <\/strong>A decentralized network of miners, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">validates<\/span> and <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">confirms all Bitcoin transactions<\/span> through a process called mining on the blockchain network.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. <\/strong>Miners <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">solve complex math problems with powerful computers<\/span> to add transactions to the Bitcoin blockchain as part of its <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">proof-of-work mechanism<\/span>. As a result, they receive a reward of 6.25 BTC.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.<\/strong> Given the current Bitcoin price, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">6.25 BTC amounts to approximately $193,750<\/span>, serving as a considerable motivation for miners to maintain the smooth addition of Bitcoin transaction blocks.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. <\/strong>Bitcoin transactions<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> consume a lot of electricity<\/span> and <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">create large carbon footprints<\/span> because of the intense computational activity involved, even though no physical mining occurs.<\/p>\n<table style=\"width: 100%; border-collapse: collapse; border-style: solid; background-color: #e9eb7f;\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\"><strong>Did you know?<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>1.<\/strong> Bitcoin began in 2009 with a block reward of 50 bitcoins.<br \/>\n<strong>2.<\/strong> In 2012, the first halving reduced it to 25 bitcoins, then to 12.5 bitcoins in 2016, and to 6.25 bitcoins in 2020.<br \/>\n<strong>3.<\/strong> The next halving in 2024 will cut the reward to 3.125 bitcoins per block.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h2><strong>What is its significance?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>1. Limited Supply<\/strong>&#8211; The <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">maximum supply of Bitcoin is 21 million coins<\/span>, and halvings are essential to prevent this limit from being reached too quickly. By decreasing the pace of new Bitcoin creation, Bitcoin reflects the extraction pattern of a finite resource like gold- becoming harder.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Lowered inflation rate<\/strong>&#8211; Halving events <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">slow down new Bitcoin creation<span style=\"color: #333333;\"> thereby<\/span><\/span>\u00a0reducing inflation in the Bitcoin system.
