About<\/strong>&#8211; It is the 48-kilometer-long railway line which <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">connects Banihal in the Ramban district<\/span> to <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Sangaldan in the Doda district<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.<\/strong> <strong>Part of USBRL project<\/strong>&#8211;\u00a0 It is part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/question\/consider-the-following-statements1-the-udhampur-srinagar-baramulla-rail-link-aims-at-integrating-ladakh-with-the-rest-of-india-2-in-order-to-prevent-water-freezing-engineers-at-the-rail-coach-facto\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Line (USBRL)<\/span> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">project.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Features<\/strong>:<br \/>\n<strong>a.<\/strong> Over <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">90% of this 48 km line runs through tunnels<\/span> in the hilly Ramban district.<br \/>\n<strong>b.<\/strong> It includes the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">country\u2019s longest 12.77-km tunnel (T-50)<\/span>. It also has 16 bridges.<br \/>\n<strong>c.<\/strong> It has <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">three escape tunnels<\/span> for passenger safety and emergency rescues.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Why it is significant?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Alternative mode of transportation to the Valley when roads are not accessible<\/strong>:<br \/>\n<strong>a.<\/strong> The train to Sangaldan offers a new travel option between Jammu and Kashmir, especially when <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">landslides block National Highway-44<\/span> between Ramban and Banihal.<br \/>\n<strong>b.<\/strong> Travelers can cover a distance of 30-35 km by road from Ramban town to Sangaldan, from where they can catch the train to Kashmir.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Promote tourism and economy<\/strong>&#8211; The train route also connects remote parts of Jammu division to tourists, enhancing economic activity. Hot springs are just 5 km from Sangaldan, and the scenic <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Gool Valley is nearby<\/span>.
