Population Estimate:<br \/>\na.<\/strong> India&#8217;s leopard population is <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">estimated at 13,874<\/span>, showing stability compared to the previous count. The numbers <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">rose by 8%<\/span> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"color: #333333;\">from<\/span> 12,852 in 2018<\/span> to 13,874 in 2022.<br \/>\n<strong>b.<\/strong> However, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">this only covers 70% of leopard habitat<\/span>, with the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Himalayas <span style=\"color: #333333;\">and<\/span> semi-arid regions not included in the survey<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Region-wise Trends<\/strong>&#8211; In Central India, the leopard population remains stable or shows slight growth, whereas in the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Shivalik hills<\/span> and <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Gangetic plains<\/span>, there is a <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">decline in population.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>3. State-wise distribution:<br \/>\na.<\/strong> The highest number of leopards were reported in <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Madhya Pradesh (3,907),<\/span> followed by <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Maharashtra (1,985)<\/span>, Karnataka (1,879) and Tamil Nadu (1,070).<br \/>\n<strong>b.<\/strong> The tiger reserves or locations with the highest leopard populations include <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Nagarajunasagar Srisailam<\/span> in Andhra Pradesh, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">followed by Panna<\/span> and Satpura in Madhya Pradesh.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Survey Methodology<\/strong>&#8211; The study targeted forested habitats <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">across 18 states<\/span> with tiger populations, employing foot surveys and camera traps.
