Why in the News?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Union Minister for Steel and Civil Aviation recently unveiled India’s first Green Hydrogen Plant in the Stainless Steel Sector.<\/p>\n

About the Project<\/strong><\/h2>\n

1. Location<\/strong>– It is situated at Jindal Stainless Limited in Hisar.<\/p>\n

2. Commissioned by<\/strong>– Hygenco and Jindal Stainless.<\/p>\n

3. Distinct feature:
\na.<\/strong> This project will be the world’s first off-grid Green Hydrogen plant for the stainless steel industry.<\/span>
\nb.<\/strong> It will also be the first Green Hydrogen facility with rooftop<\/span> and floating solar installations<\/span>.
\nc.<\/strong> It is a state-of-the-art initiative aimed at significantly reducing carbon emissions<\/span>. It aims to reduce about 2,700 metric tonnes annually and 54,000 tons of CO2 emissions over the next twenty years.<\/p>\n

What is the Significance of this Project?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

1.<\/strong> This green hydrogen project aligns well with the government’s goal for a cleaner and sustainable future.<\/p>\n

2.<\/strong> It will help in the government’s vision to prioritize green growth and achieve the goal of reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2070<\/span>.<\/p>\n

What is Green hydrogen?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

1. <\/strong>Green hydrogen is generated by using renewable energy sources<\/span> like wind or solar power to electrolyze water, separating hydrogen from oxygen in the process.<\/p>\n

2.<\/strong> Unlike traditional methods that rely on fossil fuels, green hydrogen production emits zero greenhouse gases<\/span>, making it a clean and sustainable energy source.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
