Risa is common in almost all <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">19 indigenous tribal communities of Tripura.<\/span> Each community has its own design. The traditional Tripuri female attire consists of three parts \u2014 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">risa<\/span>, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">rignai<\/span> and <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">rikutu<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>4.\u00a0Rignai is primarily worn as the lower garment and literally means \u2018to wear\u2019. It is an indigenous variety of the sari of mainland India.<\/p>\n<p>5.\u00a0Rituku\u00a0is mainly used as a wrap, or like a \u2018chunri\u2019 or a \u2018pallu\u2019 of the Indian saree. It is also used to cover the heads of newly married Tripuri women.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">7. <strong>Significance:<\/strong> It hold scrucial<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> social, cultural and religious significance<\/span> in Tripura:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">i) <strong>Social Significance:<\/strong> Risa has a crucial social and religious significance as adolescent Tripuri girls are first given a risa to wear in an event called Risa Sormani, at age 12 to 14.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">ii) <strong>Religious significance:<\/strong>\u00a0The risa is used in <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">religious festivals<\/span> such as Garia Puja by tribal communities, a turban by men during weddings and festivals, a cummerbund over the dhoti.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">iii) It is also used as a <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">headscarf by young girls and boys<\/span>, and as a muffler during winters.
