height: 60px;\">The Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), Harvard University, the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, and the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">New Zealand Space Agency<\/span>.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 26.1212%;\"><strong>Function<\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 73.8788%;\"><strong>1.<\/strong> MethaneSAT will <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">make 15 orbits around the Earth each day<\/span>, observing the activities of the oil and gas industry.<br \/>\n<strong>2.<\/strong> It will <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">generate extensive data<\/span> to indicate &#8220;<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">where methane originates<\/span>, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">who is accountable<\/span>, and <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">whether emissions are increasing<\/span> or <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">decreasing over time<\/span>.&#8221;<br \/>\n<strong>3.<\/strong> The data collected by MethaneSAT will be freely available to the public in almost real-time.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr style=\"height: 30px;\">\n<td style=\"width: 26.1212%; height: 30px;\"><strong>Features<\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 73.8788%; height: 30px;\"><strong>1.<\/strong> The satellite, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">equipped with a high-resolution infrared sensor<\/span> and <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">a spectrometer<\/span>, which will help fill important data gaps.<br \/>\n<strong>2.<\/strong> It can <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">detect changes in methane levels as small as three parts per billion in the atmosphere<\/span>, allowing it to identify smaller sources of emissions compared to previous satellites.<br \/>\n<strong>3.<\/strong> MethaneSAT also boasts a broad camera perspective, covering approximately 200 km by 200 km, enabling it to detect larger emitters known as &#8220;<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">super emitters<\/span>&#8220;.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 26.1212%;\"><strong>Data Analysis<\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 73.8788%;\">The data collected will be analyzed using cloud computing and AI technology developed by <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Google<\/span>, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">which is a mission partner<\/span>.
