About<\/strong>-Cycas circinalis, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"color: #333333;\">also known as Queen Sago<\/span><\/span>, is a species of cycad <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">native to southern India<\/span> and <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Sri Lanka<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Classification<\/strong>:<br \/>\n<strong>a.<\/strong> It is classified within the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">cycads family (Cycadaceae)<\/span>, which ranks among the planet&#8217;s <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">most threatened plant groups.<br \/>\n<\/span><strong>b.<\/strong> These plants <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">originated 300 million years ago during the Carboniferous period<\/span>, making cycads the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">oldest surviving group of seed plants<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Recognized by names in India<\/strong>-It is called <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Eenthu Pana in Kerala<\/span> and has various names like <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Mund isalu (Kannada)<\/span>, madana kama raja (Tamil), and <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Malabari supari (Marathi)<\/span> in different states.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Characteristics:<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>a.<\/strong> It is an <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">evergreen tree <span style=\"color: #333333;\">resembling a palm<\/span><\/span>, reaching heights of up to 25 feet.<br \/>\n<strong>b.<\/strong> It is commonly <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">found in dense<\/span>, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">scrubby woodlands in hilly regions<\/span> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">that experience seasonal dryness<\/span>.<br \/>\n<strong>c.<\/strong> During <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">extremely arid periods<\/span>, it may <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">shed its leaves<\/span>.<br \/>\n<strong>d.<\/strong>\u00a0It requires complete dryness for processing, which is challenging since it is usually harvested during the rainy season.<br \/>\n<strong>e.<\/strong> Typically, it <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">takes 40 to 50 years for the trees to bear fruit<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5. Geographical distribution<\/strong>:<br \/>\n<strong>a.<\/strong> It is recognized as an Indian native plant, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">found exclusively in the Western Ghats region<\/span>, spanning the states of Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and southern Maharashtra.<br \/>\n<strong>b.<\/strong> Among the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">nine cycad species identified in India<\/span>, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">six are native<span style=\"color: #333333;\"> to the country<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>6.
