A new flowering plant species named Begonia Narahari was recently discovered by researchers in<\/span> Arunachal Pradesh<\/span>.<\/p>\n

1. Discovery and Identification:<\/strong>
\na.<\/strong> It is a newly discovered flowering plant species<\/span> belonging to the Begonia genus<\/span> within the Begoniaceae family<\/span>.
\nb.<\/strong> The species, named ‘Narahari<\/span>,’ is a tribute to Prof. Garikapati Narahari Sastry<\/span> for his contributions to the well-being of the region and the establishment of the Germplasm Conservation Centre<\/span> for the bio-resources of Northeast India.<\/p>\n

2. Characteristics:<\/strong>
\na.<\/strong> Begonia Narahari is known for its vibrant blue iridescence when exposed to direct light<\/span><\/span>, a unique characteristic that helps distinguish it from related species during identification.
\nb.<\/strong> Currently, Begonia naraharii is only found<\/span> in the Demwe area within the Lohit district of Arunachal Pradesh.<\/span><\/p>\n

3. Conservation Status:<\/strong>
\na.<\/strong> Due to limited information about its global population, the species is temporarily labeled as Data Deficient (DD)<\/span> per the IUCN<\/a> species assessment guidelines.
\nb.<\/strong> The limited habitat and possible threats like agricultural expansion, fires, and timber extraction highlight the importance of focused conservation efforts.<\/p>\n
